Inaugural Breast Cancer Workshop Will Save Lives

Dr Wendy Ingman breast cancer

Australian Breast Cancer Research (ABCR) are proudly supporting the inaugural Ethical and Legal Considerations in Breast Density Workshop, held at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research on August 23 2018.

Led by A/Prof Ingman, who is pioneering world-class research into breast density, the workshop will bring together experts, patients and clinicians to explore the issues associated with women being notified about having dense breasts.

“The policy is under review because breast density masks cancers and there are women who have been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer which has been missed on screening mammograms,” A/Prof Ingman said.

“The workshop is a first of its kind and will kick start a new collaborative research with the medical and legal ethics researchers in the School of Public Health and the Faculty of Law at the University of Adelaide.

“This workshop has a direct impact on patients and the community that can lead to saving lives through improved early detection of breast cancer.”

This workshop is the first of its kind world-wide, combining patients and clinicians discussing breast density and the impact it can have on breast screening and preventing breast cancer.

We look forward to updating you on the outcomes of this workshop that will prevent the heartache of losing a loved one to breast cancer.
