Let's talk science with Arlee and Dr Hannah Wardill

Arlee interviews Dr Hannah Wardill on what it's like being a female scientist!

Meet the Women Changing the Future of Breast Cancer

Dr Hannah Wardill

Dr Wardill is revolutionising cancer survivorship with research focusing on improving the quality of life for cancer survivors by addressing the debilitating side effects of cancer treatments. Her work delves into the critical role of gut health, exploring how cancer therapies disrupt the gut environment and lead to symptoms affecting not just physical health but also social and emotional wellbeing.

The aim of her supportive oncology research is to ensure that cancer survivors regain their dignity and ability to enjoy everyday activities, such as socialising, working, and pursuing intellectual engagements, free from the fear of treatment side effects.

Dr Sarah Boyle

Dr Boyle has dedicated her career to understanding and stopping breast cancer in its tracks. Inspired by her own mother’s battle with the disease, Dr. Boyle has made it her mission to uncover the mechanisms behind how breast cancer grows and spreads. Her work at the Centre for Cancer Biology, supported by The Hospital Research Foundation Group, has revealed that physical forces within the body can make tumours more invasive and aggressive.

Dr. Boyle’s research is identifying innovative ways to intervene and stop cancer progression, helping families hold onto the everyday moments that matter most.

Associate Professor Wendy Ingman

A/Prof Ingman is leading the charge to empower women with critical information about breast density, a key factor in breast cancer risk and detection. Dense breast tissue increases the likelihood of cancer and makes it harder to detect through mammograms. A/Prof Ingman’s pioneering research, supported by long-term funding from The Hospital Research Foundation Group, is improving access to breast density information. Her work ensures that women can make informed decisions about their screening and health, potentially saving countless lives through early detection and risk management.

Proudly Supporting Breast Cancer Research

Australian Breast Cancer Research is unique in that we support breast cancer research across the disease lifespan; from prevention to treatment to cure. This research is vital to stop the pain breast cancer causes Australian families.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Australia, and the second most common cancer to cause death in women, after lung cancer. In Australia, 1 in 7 women and 1 in 700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

We’re fighting to change this with the help of compassionate people like you!

It’s time to fight back against breast cancer and eliminate it for good. By considering donating today, you will join the fight for better patient care and lifesaving treatments. Thank you for your compassion!
